Shipping Tips

The trick is to make sure  cartridges are well protected, but not crammed  into the box(es).

bullet

Please minimize the total number of boxes in order to reduce costs.  Boxes can be quite large and still accepted by Canada Post (up to 60 lbs.)  It is much cheaper to ship 1 box of 30 lbs. than 3 boxes of 10 lbs.  Although I do reimburse your shipping costs, your cooperation in this will ensure that what I pay back to the schools remains as high as it is.

Wrap inkjets loosely in newspaper, (wear gloves as the ink can be difficult to remove). No need to wrap inkjets individually, just take 5 or 10, line them up, and roll them in a sheet of newspaper.

bullet

Place laser cartridges in plastic bags to keep toner from leaking during shipment.  Black powder coming from boxes in the mail tends to make Canada Post nervous.

If lasers are still in their original boxes,  you can usually remove their cardboard end caps, and pack two cartridges per original box (flip one of the cartridges over). This often does not work with Lexmark cartridges. Then you may tape 6 or 8 of these boxes together (see photo below).  This way, you have 12 to 16 lasers in "one box".   Be sure to tape them together securely and wrap in brown paper if possible.  If they come apart, the shipment WILL BE LOST.

If lasers are not in their original cartons:

                1.  Wrap them  in bubble wrap or newspaper. ( because of their weight,  they  are easily damaged )

                2.  Pad the bottom of a sturdy box with crumpled newspapers.  Be sure the box is sturdy enough to take the weight.

                       3. Put any  lasers in the bottom of the box, and use the         newspaper-wrapped inkjets as fill for the rest of the box. DO NOT put  laser cartridges on top of inkjet cartridges, as they are too heavy.

                        4. Mark boxes "box 1 of 2", "box 2 of 2", so I know when cartridges come in how many boxes to expect.

Fill in the online form, listing quantities and types of cartridges you have.  The site will then total your shipment and issue a reference #.   You may then ship.  Please do not ship cartridge types that aren't on the form.  There is a $1.00 per laser cartridge handling charge deducted from your payment for every laser shipped in that is not eligible.  I will be notified by the website that your shipment is coming.

Ship  REGULAR PARCEL POST PREPAID,  we will reimburse you the costs if you ship a minimum of $50 worth of cartridges and you have obtained a reference number.  Remember that shipping Parcel Post is charged by the box,  so try to be as efficient as possible.   Maximum weight per box is over 60 lbs.

bullet

DO NOT SHIP by other than approved methods unless you check with me first.  A Courier service  picking the boxes up at the school may seem convenient, but it is very expensive,  and I will only pay shipping equivalent to what Canada Post  would have cost.
